Garroch

Description:  The Garroch are a race of what appear to be elk-men. They stand between 6 and 7 feet tall, with an additional foot or so for their rack of antlers.  They are huge chunks of muscle, some of them easily reaching four feet across at the shoulder.  Females are slightly shorter, not as bulky, and do not have antlers.
Like the other native species of De'Ru, the Garroch have six limbs.  In this case it is expressed in two pairs of arms and one pair of legs.  The upper pair of arms are huge, massive chunks of muscle, used primarily in battle and the wielding of weapons and heavy equipment.  The second pair of arms, located below the first, are smaller, stunted, the fingers more slender and dexterous, and are employed in more intricate tasks, like carving and sewing.  Their fingernails are large, thick and blunt, remnants of the hooves their evolutionary ancestors once possessed.  Both pairs of arms have four digits, the middle two having fused long ago to become one.
Their entire bodies are covered with fur, ranging from pale tawny to dark chocolate brown, sometimes almost black.  Their thick manes, limbs, chest and belly tend to be darker than the rest of their bodies, the mane tending to run in a stripe down between their shoulders all the way to the fluffy deer-like tail at their rump.
Their legs are digitigrade, thick and powerful, ending in a three-toed hoof of sorts.

Skills and Abilities:  The Garroch are excellent warriors and tacticians.  The majority of their skill lies in battle and the crafting of objects to be used in battle.  They are well known for their weapons and armor crafting, and are highly revered by many races for their ability to make a weapon both beautiful and highly functional and strong.
Though they are superb warriors, they are not overly intelligent, devoting the majority of their brainpower to planning battles with other clans, securing wives, crafting weapons and armor, and perhaps, making clothing and the occasional jewelry item.
Extremely powerful, they have high endurance and are capable of sustaining speeds of up to 35 miles per hour for an hour or more.
Their  sense of smell and hearing are excellent, though their eyesight is about level with that of a human, and they tend to be red-green colorblind.

Ecology:  The Garroch live in the cold, southern regions of De'Ru, where vast pine forests spread for miles.  They have lived here since the oldest elders can remember, and they protect their personal territories violently.
Garroch live between 80 and 120 years, reaching sexual maturity at around 14.  They do not reach adulthood until 18, however, and may stay with their clan for life.  Antlers begin to grow in at around 6 years old, beginning only as tiny bumps and getting larger and more-pronged throughout their life.
Females have 1-2 children at a time, born helpless and bawling as any human child.

Society:  Garroch are extremely territorial, living in isolated clans in their cold southern climes.  The exact structure varies from clan to clan, but for the most part, a clan is ruled by a council of elders and a shaman, all of whom are looked upon with great respect.
Clans are constantly warring with each other for land, property, females, etc.
Males consider themselves to be the superior of the genders, and females generally are content to let the males think that.  A male may have anywhere up to 12 wives, though tends to have a favorite among them.  Despite this polygamous system, love is not unheard of, and some males take only one wife for the whole of their lifespan.
While the males go off to battle, the females stay at home, tending to the matters of the village and basically keeping things running smoothly while the boys are off "playing their little games."
Occasionally, albeit very rarely, a female will grow antlers, and come to be a great warrior, respected and treated as any powerful male.
Both genders garb themselves in thick furs, though males generally wear armor in addition.

It is not unlikely to find minotaurs living amongst Garroch, as they have similar attitudes.  Dwarves are also well-liked by Garroch for their love of battle and weapons, and their skill with weaponsmithing.

Religion: The Garroch worship Ibhor alone, denying the existence of all other deities on De'Ru.  Ibhor priests are highly respected in Garroch society.

Special Notes:  Long long ago, the landmass known as Caernis was part of Garronal.  When it broke apart, a group of Garroch were isolated there, and continued their evolution independently from the Garroch, becoming a unique subspecies, though still considered Garroch.  They are known as the Caernel.
