Quareni
| The Quareni are an aquatic race native to De'Ru. Description:
The Quareni are air-breathing mammals whose evolutionary path has taken them
to the sea. They walk upright on two webbed plantigrade feet, standing
between 6 and 7 feet tall. Their proportions, for the most part, are
similar to those of a human, though the torso is a bit longer and the legs a
bit shorter. The arms are muscular and functional, possessing webbed
three-fingered hands, tipped with small claws. The neck is long,
topped by a wedge-shaped head. No ears are present save for the small
holes behind the eyes. They are capable of echolocation, the ears
being useful primarily out of the water. The nostrils can close to
keep out water while the Quareni is submerged, able to stay under for a half
hour at a time. Skills and Abilities: The Quareni
are, of course, excellent swimmers, this being their primary skill.
Flat out in open water, they can reach speeds of 30 miles an hour.
Like dolphins, they are often found enjoying themselves by riding the
bow-wave of ships. Ecology: Quareni have been an amphibious
race for thousands of years, evolved from creatures that lived along the
shores, fishing the waters and returning to land to rest. Society: Quareni live in vast underwater
cities which have been meticulously emptied of water to create air-filled
rooms, buildings, and even broad courtyards. Despite all of this,
their structures tend to be simple, usually a converted cave system, as it
is somewhat difficult to build underwater. Religion: The religion of the Quareni is a very loose one, based primarily around the worship of Fitias with Dauneth and Inadhea being lesser gods. Special Notes: The Quareni
have learned how to communicate with the dolphins the Terrans brought with
them from Earth, and they seem to enjoy eachother's company quite a bit,
quite often found together. Being almost completely aquatic, the
Quareni don't have much direct relation with many other races, though there
are some present in Deronar, and even some working and living in the river
below the falls. |
