The Inn of the Gilded Mists is not an impressive-looking edifice.  Indeed it looks, from the outside, as though it were slapped together very quickly and rather sloppily to create a short, squat, somewhat long building of clay and stone.  It is rather dull and dreary in appearance, seeming to be built from stone blocks, then paved over with some manner of clay or adobe.  The windows seem crooked, the wooden doors weathered dark with age.  Trees and bushes grow wild around the structure, thick vines of ivy crawl up the wall, creeping slowly toward the doors.
There is more to this rustic domicile than meets the eye, however.  It may look plain, but its location is quite the opposite.  It rests at the top of a hill, perched upon a cliff overlooking an enormous waterfall, the roaring of which can be heard as one approaches the inn.
One will find upon entering the building that somehow the architects of this structure have managed to dampen the roaring of the falls to a muted whisper, making conversation within quite possible and creating, if nothing else, a pleasant soft white noise in the background.  One will also discover upon entering that the shabby appearance of the exterior belies the tidy appearance of the interior...
While the windows at the front of the building are few and somewhat small, those facing the falls take up almost the entirety of the rear wall, providing a spectacular view of the gorge and the waters beyond.  These windows face the setting sun, casting the waters with a golden glow, giving the Gilded Mist Falls their name.
A wooden balcony, spanning the length of the building, hangs above the churning maw of the falls.  Lined with tables, chairs and a large fireplace, the balcony is carefully maintained and completely safe, though the wood underfoot does have a tendency to creak ominously from time to time.
The staff of the Gilded Mist, for the most part, are friendly and helpful. The owner of the inn is an older De'Rukai gentleman by the name of Chei'Run, often seen helping out his staff in the commons room. The stone floor and wooden tables are clean and well-kept, the bar finely-polished, the glasses sparkling; it's obvious Chei takes great pride in his work.

The City of Deronar

The Gilded Mists Inn is located at the cliffside edge of the City of Deronar, in the northwest portion of the continent of Denrare.  The city is a growing, bustling center for trade and commerce, well on its way to becoming a the first multi-racial city state upon De'Ru.  Members of every race travel here to barter and sell their specific wares and goods.
The city sprouted up around the river and the necessity to have a shipping hub located there due to the falls.  The brilliant De'Rukai, together human engineers, dwarven craftsmen, and clever gnomes, managed to construct an elaborate mechanism designed to safely carry seaward-bound cargo ships down the falls.  The machine was dubbed the Golden Ladder.
The first settlers, of course, were De'Rukai, with their underground tunnels and dwellings.  Next came the workers who built the Golden Ladder, along with their families. Then came traders, merchants, shopkeepers, entrepreneurs, etc.  The current population of Deronar is approximately 100,000, though due to the nature of the city, being both above-ground and below, it appears much smaller.  The majority of buildings above-ground are homes and shops belonging to those races who prefer sunlight and open air.  Deronar is a grand, impressive city, with stunning marvels of architecture, beautiful domes and archways, statue-lined courtyards.  Many an artisan contributed to the building of this blossoming city-state. Well-maintained stairways and ramps leading down to the lower levels of the city are common among the streets.

Deronar is currently governed by a council of five; a representative from each of the most common races in Deronar: an elf, a human, a de'rukai, a dwarf, and a ferrea.  Though all other races can be encountered in the city, these five are the most common.
The Council as a whole oversees the workings and maintenance of the city, its laws, economy, agriculture, etc., though each individual is responsible for a specific division of the city. They are as follows:
Elven Representative: Health & Agriculture
Dwarven Representative: Engineering & Architecture
De'Rukai Representative: Education & Science
Human Representative: Defense & Community*
Ferrea Representative:  Economy & Commerce

*While Deronar suffers no threat from other nations and city-states, it is still necessary to maintain law within the city itself.  To this effect, a City Guard, consisting of members of many races, is present within Deronar.  The guards wear uniforms of gold and green (and are a playable class).

The economy of Deronar is a precious metal coin system, the coins varying in worth by their metal type. Those coming into the city to buy or sell must first exchange their currency for that of Deronar.  The coins are roughly the size of an earth quarter, and are printed with a waterfall on one side and a five-point star on the other.  The exchange rate from one metal type to the next is as follows:
1 Platinum = 10 Gold
1 Gold = 10 Silver
1 Silver = 5 Steel
1 Steel = 5 Bronze
1 Bronze = 5 Copper
1 Copper = 5 Brass

Some examples of monetary worth: a high quality mug of ale = 1 bronze; a loaf of bread = 2-3 copper; a good meal = 1-2 bronze
