Vampires

For now, the only playable vampires upon De'Ru will be those who were once Terrans, as outlined below.

Description: Obviously since most Vampires were once Terrans they’re description varies as much as the humans. From size to hair color and eyes they look much the same except for several things. Vampires tend to have a pale complexion, as they cannot go into the sunlight, causing the veins in their bodies to show beneath the skin. Their eyes, though sometimes normal shades, often take on uncommon hews because of their sensitivity to light and darkness. The canines on their upper and lower jaw are quite sharp, drawn into points to easily pierce the flesh of their victims, willing or unwilling. Some of the more powerful and or older vampires can allow the features on their face to shift when they become angered or will it to, causing the bones beneath their brows to protrude forward, the skin drawing together and giving them a more “demonic” look. Another difference is their nails, appearing to be made of glass they appear more like claws and can be used as a deadly weapon when needed.
For some reason, Terrans are the preferred victims for turning upon De'Ru, vampires of other races being extremely rare, if they exist at all.

Skills and Abilities: Vampires possess speed and strength greater then that of Terrans and many other species, able to draw upon it to move in what human eyes can only be seen as a blur. They can also lift sometimes 10 times their own weight, depending on the age and power of the being. Their eyes and hearing are quite sensitive, seeing things in acute detail and catching sounds from far away. Though Vampires are immortal and cannot die by natural means or sickness, they can be killed. Direct sunlight can kill a vampire after exposure, as can not feeding for a too long, causing them to weaken and eventually die a slow and painful death. Being by their nature unholy beings, vampires are damaged by holy powers of good alignment.
When vampires feed off a mortal, their bite can cause great pleasure to the individual, having the power to be able to cloud their minds for a period of time. Other abilities vary from vampire to vampire, some possessing special skills from their sire’s bloodline or unique gifts only some possess.

Ecology: Vampires don’t seem to prefer any one climate for another, cold and heat not bothering them as much as it would a mortal being. They do not live outdoors since the sun would easily burn them, but other then that they are quite adaptable and can live where they please as long as they have a shelter during the hours of the day where the light cannot reach them. They tend to be found within cities or highly populated areas, as they must have prey to feed upon.

Society: Despite coming to De’Ru on the ships that carried the Terrans from Earth they have no real loyalties to anyone. Preferring to remain either alone or with their own kind they hold no grudge towards anyone. It is not uncommon for a vampire to take a Terran, or any other species, as mate or for mere companionship.

Religion:  Most vampires have taken to worshipping Nufeir, the God of Darkness and Death.

Special Notes: The basic Vampire upon De'Ru is a young one, freshly turned.  As vampirism did not exist upon earth, and did not exist within the ranks of the settlers, who were all rigorously screened, it can only be deduced that there was already a vampire lord present upon De'Ru when they arrived, and that he, or she, has begun turning the Terrans.  This lord has yet to be discovered, but it is believed that there was only one, probably having arrived upon De'Ru like so many others, through a Rift Storm.  He is rumored to be very old and very powerful, and very good at hiding, some say he is Nufeir, Lord of Darkness himself, though this is unproven.  With their vast scientific knowledge, the Terrans are working feverishly to come up with a cure for this virus.
