Every artist's site has to have your basic "information about the artist/author" page that is always necessary and never read.
So here's a little about me:
My real name is unimportant, as I prefer to go by Sidian in online
situations.
I'm generally a fairly optimistic person, I love to laugh, and I love
to make others laugh. Though I can also be fairly sarcastic and cynical...
Some interesting facts about me: I only have one eye, and still
manage to draw like I do (people insist I'm good...blah). I lost
my right eye to cancer (retinoblastoma) when I was three.
I think I've managed it pretty well through all the people giving
me shit about it and the half a dozen or so surgeries I've had to
have.
Though I am part of the furry fandom, due to my artistic involvement, I don't really consider
myself a "fur" so to speak. I am not a furry. I am a therianthrope, and a furry
artist. It's fairly hard to
explain, and I don't like to get into it in detail with people I
don't know very well. Sufficed to say, there are some aspects of
the furry fandom that I find very distasteful, some of which are
mentioned below... I dislike how the fandom at large seems to
revolve around porn and kink to such a high degree, though I understand that's
just how it is. And I even draw some of it, obviously. It would simply be
nice if the artists who don't focus entirely upon that sort of thing got a
little more acclaim, and I'm not just referring to myself.
I HATE the impossible physical proportions that exist in the fandom. My reasoning for being against MASSIVELY huge-breasted women and
herms, is this: When I was 17, I had a breast reduction. I went
from a DD to a C, and it was the best choice I EVER made. I'm
happier now, I feel better and I look better. It was a pain to be
as large as I was, and I think that these people just don't
realize what large-breasted women have to go through. People
staring, being self-conscious, back pain, shoulder pain, higher
risk of breast cancer, a hard time finding clothes that fit
right, and I'm not even going to go into how hard it was to find
a bra. Most of the people who draw and play these furs that have
6 H-cup breasts are men, men who just don't realize what it's like. A much
lesser reason for my disgust with balloon-breasts is the fact
that I'm a realist. I draw realistically, despite my subjects of choice. I pride
myself on it, and boobs that could be used as emergency flotation devices just
DO NOT EXIST. They look terrible and are usually on tiny little vixens. I'm
sorry, but the tiny little vixen would have balance problems...or snap in half
like a twig...
Being the zoology fanatic that I am, I also pride myself on making the species
that I draw look like the species that they're supposed to be. I do this to the
point of obsession, at times. I will get frustrated and angry if I realize I did
a facial structure or fur pattern wrong, and insist on fixing it if possible,
despite the fact that most people who view it won't notice or care. I
enjoy making anthropomorphic characters out of unique, rare, and fascinating
animals, as can be noted in my wide variety of furry characters.
I am a massive roleplay nerd (also can be noted in my wide array of characters,
furry and non). I roleplay on Tapestries when I can find it, RP being
exceedingly difficult to find in furry venues. For this reason, most of my
roleplaying occurs in Imperia, an
IRC-based (non-furry!) RP channel that has been around for 9 years, about 8 of
which I have been a part of it, barring a few breaks.
I'm a nature nut, I love the outdoors and wildlife, and I know all sorts of
animal facts (though not enough! Never enough! Must learn more!) I was briefly
in college with goals to be a zoology major, but lack of funding and focus
brought that to an unfortunate end. Someday I hope to go back. I love birdwatching
and wildlife viewing, and get a kick out of being able to identify birds/animals
on sight. If I don't know what it is, I must find out.
Like just about every artist you'll find, I'm not really all that happy with my
work (though I will admit to an impressive degree of improvement). An artist is his/her own worst
critic, after all.
One thing about my art that I am quite proud of is its
originality. Although I may be inspired and impressed by other
artists, I never copy someone else's style or technique. I have
been known to study a piece of someone else's work for reference
with muscles or a certain limb position or ideas for clothing/jewelry, but never their style. I have yet to stumble across anyone
who draws just like me, and have been told that people can
actually recognize my style: "Hey! That's a Sidian pic!" That's a real ego booster right there. ;) They say they can recognize
the eyes the most.
I've always been told, ever since I started drawing when I was
little, that I'm really good at expressions. People still tell me
that and it makes me happy. :)
That's about all I can come up with for the moment, so if you
want to know more, ASK ME! :)
(More artist/art info stuff after the characters crap.)
Now on to other stuff....
Sidian is a furred, mammalian Silver dragon. Sidian is, in essence, me. She is my
other half, so to speak, another facet of my personality, not just a
"character". In that
respect I'm more of a therianthrope than a fur. She is a very close and private thing to
me. When I'm on a muck as her, I play myself, there is no reference to "my
player" or "typist," and though I love to role play, I'm very
rarely fully in character.
If you want to learn more about Sidian, you can check out the section on her in
the Gallery.
I love to draw and I love to write, though I draw much
much more than I write. I started drawing furries before I even knew what
furries were, because I couldn't draw humans. Then when I found
out about furrydom, thanks to stumbling upon some furry art
through a search for weredragons on the net, and a friend
directing me to
Furnation,
my options expanded and I discovered a whole new genre. I started
drawing more, coming up with more ideas, and began drawing some
yiff (yikes!). I have been inspired by many artists, the first
furry artists I ever really saw (before I got into the fandom)
were Jessica Willard, Bucky, K9, Singe, Chris Sawyer and some others I really
can't remember right now. I owe a LOT to
Goldenwolf, just one all night art session with her and my
colored pencil skill increased dramatically, she's so amazing. Same goes for
Kyoht, who taught me tons about traditional media. I
really cannot stand art like what Winger does, and I have a
strict personal policy about that kind of thing (see above). I do
NOT draw females with massive or multiple breasts, and I do not
draw impossibly huge or messy genitalia as a basic rule. Perhaps another time
for my rant about spooge...
My primary mediums are colored pencils and digital coloring with Paint Shop Pro.
I enjoy both, though tend to use PSP more, because I like the clean look of
digital coloring.

Well, that's about it, as if you even got
this far. These pages do tend to be rather boring. So now you can
get your fuzzy butt back to the good stuff.
